Impressions get a bad rap. We've been told they're a vanity metric or that they don't really mean anything so we should just ignore them.
Heck, I used to think the same thing too! 😨
The truth is, that Pinterest impressions are an important metric to track. And do you want to know why?
Because the numbers of impressions tells you how many times someone saw your Pin. And do you know why that's important? Because that is how you measure BRAND AWARENESS!
Look, here's the deal. The customer journey starts with brand awareness.
❌ People won't join your email list, if they don't know you exist⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❌ People won't head over to your website if they don't know you have a website.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❌ People won't hire you if they don't know what you do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You've got to make them aware of who you are and why they NEED what you offer.
And that brings us to ways to increase your impressions, which increases your brand awareness. Keep reading for Pinterest best practices with getting more impressions on your Pinterest business account!
FIVE WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR IMPRESSIONS ON PINTEREST
#1 Story Pins
Story pins are a new feature that Pinterest hasn't released to all users yet. However, if you are in the US and have a Pinterest business account you may already have access to story pins.
To find out, simply go to create, and if you have the feature, you'll see "create a story pin" at the top of the list.
If you don't, then you can request this feature by going to your main menu and you should see an option to "Request Story Pins".
Use Story Pins to:
Give tips
Provide step-by-step tutorials
Talk about trends in your industry
Show a collection of products or projects
The possibilities are endless with Story Pinterest Pins.
One thing that you do need to be aware of is that you do not have the ability to include a link with this Pinterest content. I know, bummer. So, you will want to include a Call To Action slide at the end.
Let your audience know where they can find you on other social networks or ask them to hit the ♥ if they found your Story Pin helpful.
#2 Video Pins
Just like every other social network, videos are getting LOVE on Pinterest too. And since Video Pins are still relatively new on Pinterest, you have an advantage in your Pinterest marketing by jumping on this trend before it takes off.
Using video takes the interaction that you have with your audience a step further than posting static images.
It's a great way to pack a ton of valuable content into an easily digested media format. Including more video in your Pinterest marketing strategy will most definitely pay off!
One thing you have to keep in mind though is that most Pinterest users do not have their sound turned on (this is true across most social platforms). So, you will want to add text to your videos so those that don't have their sound on can follow along.
#3 Fresh Content
Pinterest has said that they are prioritizing fresh content. They want to create an enjoyable user experience, so you can imagine how un-enjoyable it would be to see the same thing over and over again, right?
This does put some pressure on brands to create more content. However, this is where you'll want to repurpose all of that wonderful content that you have in addition to creating fresh new content.
So, this begs the question, "What does Pinterest consider fresh content?"
New URLs are going to get the most love! That's why it's important to have a plan for creating new content on a regular basis.
But this doesn't mean that you can't reuse some of the content that you already have when posting on Pinterest!
New images are second on the list of "things that Pinterest loves". So, if you have a blog post that is still relevant, you can create a new Pin using a fresh new image.
You'll also want to make sure that your keywords are still relevant for older content, so a quick keyword search is in order here (more on that below).
#4 Pin Consistently
Consistency is key with anything, and including this in your Pinterest strategy is no different. Pinterest wants and NEEDS your content to satisfy it's users. That's why accounts that are consistent about pinning are going to see better success.
And while user searches are one way of getting found on Pinterest, don't discount the other methods! Your Pins show up in your followers feed, they can also appear in a "suggested" search that Pinterest so conveniently provides.
So, if you're not providing content on a consistent basis, Pinterest won't have your killer content to show it's users.
That's why you definitely need a Pinterest strategy! You can learn more about the Pinterest strategy service that Swink Social Co offers here.

Using keywords in your title, description, your board descriptions, and right there on your image will have a significant impact on your impressions. Those Pinterest keywords are what help Pinterest match your content with users who are searching for it.
